“The Big Red,” more commonly known in China as “China Red,” is a high-end blend from Fengqing Dian Hong, made from eighteen different kinds of tea trees as raw materials for blending. The recipe still remains a secret, but we can share three types that are included: Meizhan, Huangdan, and Fengqing 18. The combination of large-leaf and small-leaf produces a strong taste from the large-leaf and a high aroma from the small-leaf. It has created a new chapter for Dian Hong tea since the 1980s and is the representative of high-end Chinese black tea.
The taste of this tea remains stable throughout all infusions, and the aroma has multiple layers, which is quite unique even among other blended teas. The most prominent flavors are wintersweet, cinnamon, floral, and orchid, which come in layers, one after another. The long-lasting taste and aroma linger in the mouth, and with each breath, the taste remains for some time.
This tea is most suitable to drink in the evenings. It is a very balanced black tea, suitable for everyone and just tastes exceptional. It is very refreshing, mellow, and smooth, and at the same time, rich in layers.
The highlight of this tea is in the blending technique, which brings out the best of all the combined tea trees. It works harmoniously together, both pleasing to the look and the taste.
Note: All our black teas are freshly harvested in spring or autumn and sold yearly—never from last year’s stock. (See product description for harvest season.)
